From the WINDOW TO THE WALL..... we basically gutted it all!!! For this room, We knew we would be ripping out the carpet and replacing it with luxury vinyl flooring, and installing and painting board and batten wall treatment, but that’s about it. We had a few things come up that we didn't have planned. For instance, all of our doors, door trim, window trim and baseboards are all peeling and chipping paint everywhere. Which tells me that someone painted latex paint over an oil based paint On all these surfaces, which makes every single room a little more challenging and time consuming. Especially when you move into a home with and over abundance of doors. I think every room has at least 3 doors in them, our office had 7! Yes you heard that right, 7 doors. I think someone was concerned about having as many exit points as possible for each room. So I had to sand the doors and trim so that we could stop the peeling paint madness, which took a lot more time than I had hoped. We also had to fix the window ledge and trim under that because it was almost broke off and instead of sanding all peeling paint off it was much easier to start fresh. So once we got that all taken care of it was time for painting. Since we have 9 foot ceilings in the bedroom and we would be using 8 foot boards, even with the taller baseboards the batten wouldn’t go all the way to the ceiling. So we decided on a good height that we would stop the board and batten at and then planned the room from there. We also had smaller pieces of shiplap left that I didn’t want to waste so I wanted to install them vertically above the board and batten on the wall that the bed would go. I want to eventually do the shiplap above all the board and batten but for now we used what we had. I love the dimension and interest it adds to the room. If there is any one thing I would suggest to really transform a room it’s a wall treatment.

Up next was the flooring. We have real hardwood flooring in living room and office. Its the orange warm toned flooring. So I knew since that floor meets with bedroom floor I had to pick something that wouldn’t be to contrasting. I don’t like something to cool or to warm, I wanted it to have little bit of both, and I really wanted something a little lighter. So the search began, and it took us a while to find the perfect floor. I have the most expensive taste without even trying to. No matter what I am shopping for, I will pick the most expensive tile, flooring, hardware, appliances , furniture without seeing any prices. I’ll never forget when my hubby took me to a flooring store that was suppose to be more affordable and the first tile I picked out was $100 a square foot! The worker close by said “ wow great taste you picked the most expensive tile we sell ” Ofcourse I did.... if there was a game show in which you had to pick out the most expensive item in the store, I would dominate. So it can be challenging trying to get the designer look on a smaller budget, but you just have to get creative. I honestly try to get the high end look I love, at a more affordable price. I believe if you have a mix of high end and l affordable elements together you can achieve a designer look. I always think you need to add some antique pieces to add some character to each room. So back to the flooring, I was not finding much I loved and what I was finding was way to expensive. Finally we brought home a few samples and found one we really loved. Since we would be using it in the other bedrooms eventually as well I wanted something that I thought would be available in the near future as well. We love the flooring so much. It’s exactly the look I was wanting.. I want it in my whole house , but I’m thankful for getting this room done and looking beautiful! I try to remember it’s a marathon not a sprint !
